Photo Gallery White Template

This is a no frills photo template. There is no java script or flash, only good old XHTML. Sure fancy sliding or fading images is great but they use space and computer memory. Some times it is enough just to display pictures in the most simple of ways.

The site is divided into two columns. The left column is 200 px wide and contains the navigation structure. There right column takes up the rest of the space and is the main content column. Four galleries are included with example pictures from JHA images.

Another personal template which is rather nice and straight forward. The nav buttons are dynamic but other than that there are no scrips on the site.

The site it self streaches across the screen but the content is centred and 800 px wide. It is divided into two columns, the left is 450 px wide and the right one is 330 px.

I have included all the usuall stuff on a personal website like "about me", "contact", "cv", "photo gallery" etc. But it is of course easy to change that to what ever you need. I'll create a few more versions of this template with other colours soon.

Conservative Grey Template

“Conservative” sounds a bit boring, but when you think of if, good sites that are easy to navigate and where it is easy to find what you are looking for, are usually conservative, at least in there layout.

This free template is conservative in its layout and design but has certain elegance. At least, that is my opinion. The site is centered and 900 pixels wide. I have divided the front page into three rows, the first has one column, the second two and the third has three columns. The rest of the pages have just one single empty column so you are free to design them for your self. Navigation is found on top and is made up of interactive buttons so there is some java script.

You may change the site in any way you want as long as you keep the link in the footer.The example images are provided by JHA images.

Free Webhosting

There are plenty of free hosting alternatives available to the web master who doesn’t want to part from his hard earned cash. The free hosting providers will naturally not provide the same amount of high quality services but in many cases what they offer is enough. If you plan to have plenty of visitors, interactive content and perhaps a web shop, then I think you should open your wallet and pay the price for a good quality provider. But if you are just putting up a site with static content like a photo gallery then a free provider is usually enough.

I have used Webs.com for several projects and I can warmly recommend them. At Webs.com can either chose one of their templates or upload your own site. Obviously there is a limit on how many pages you can have. The built in editor is easy to use and they supply features like photo galleries, video support, blogs, forums, calendars and widgets. And if you feel that your needs are growing you can upgrade to a full service account starting at just over $4 per month.

Free images

Today I thought I should tell you about two good sites to get some free photos on the net. When you are building a website you usually don’t have the perfect images on your own computer. You can of course buy them from several sites but you must first sign up to the site and of course you must pay. But there are some very good free alternatives. All you have to “pay” to get the free images is to give reference and a link back to the site. That’s a bargain if I ever saw one.

Freefoto.com has plenty of pictures in many categories. If you want an image without a water mark you have to provide your email. If you just want to share an image on a blog you can get a link and just paste it into your html document. That is very handy. Below you see an example of this.

On the plus side freefoto.com has lots of pictures and they offer several options of downloading them. You can also purchase an image if you want to. The quality of the images are excellent (please note that I have not checked out all of them). On the minus side the site can be a bit slow at times and navigation is not the best so finding the right image can take a while.

Freedigitalphotos.net is another good one. Not as many images as Freefoto but simpler to use. To download an image, all you have to do is to right click on the image and save it. The site is fast and navigation is very simple. I tend to use this site the most simply because it is the easiest one to use. I always start with this one when I search for a certain image, if I can’t find one I move on.

There are more sites out there but these are my two favourites. So far I have always found what I was looking for in one of these. If you have any other good ones please feel free to send a comment.

Personal Red Template

This site is perfect if you want to promote yourself on the web. Tell the world about yourself, upload your holiday pictures to the Photo Gallery and put your CV online to market yourself.

This site takes up the whole screen. It is divided into two columns, the left column, the "content" div, is positioned 300 px from the right and will adjust itself to the screen size. The right column is fixed at 300 px wide. Navigation is on top. There is some Java scripting for the Photo Gallery.

You may change the site in any way you want as long as you keep the link in the footer.

The java code controlling the Photo Gallery is provided by Dynamic Drive.

The example images are provided by JHA images.

Make your own avatar

There are plenty of resources on the web that are free to use. That can be very helpful for the private web designer who does not have the muscle of the big design agencies behind them.

One of these is the Portrait Illustration Maker from Abi-Station. Here you can make little avatars of yourself, or any one else for that matter. It is all very simple and all free. I have used it many times and if you look at my picture on my profile you will se what I look like as an avatar. The likeness is very good, my wife says it looks more like me that I do myself!

You have control over such things as background, head shape, hairstyle and colour, eyes, mouth, nose and many other features. The variations are limitless. Great for your profile on Facebook or website or just for good fun.

Newspaper Template

Want to start a newspaper? Then this one is for you.

I am very pleased with this one, it just looks great. The site is 800 pixels wide and centered. Navigation is on top and the content is divided into three columns. The right and left are 200 pixels wide and the center is 350. The nav buttons are interactive so there is a bit of script on this one.

The images are from http://www.freedigitalphotos.net/ which is a great place when you need images for a project.

Yellow Template

Okay, the name is rubbish but it was all I could think of.

It is a simple template (I like them that way). I put the navigation top left and under that there is a header image which is supposed to look like a metal pipe of some sort. The header is actually divided into two parts, but it is easy to replace if you want.

There are two content columns. The left column is 560 pixels wide and the right will adjust itself to the rest of the screen. On the bottom there is a footer with a link back here and to the Fox in the Box where I also list my templates. These links must remain there if you wish to use this template.

Hello all, my name is Roger Johansson. This is just a little test to see how this work. I design websites as one of my hobbies and I thought I should sharing a few of them.

It will not be one of those blogs where I write about my life that would just be too boring. I’ll just post web templates that I have made and share a few tips and tricks I have learned along the way.

Please feel free to download as many of my templates as you whish and you can use and change them any way you like. I would appreciate if you kept the link in the footer back to this blog in exchange for using the templates.
